What is VET FEE-HELP?
VET FEE-HELP is a student loan scheme that is funded by the Commonwealth Government to assist eligible students to pay for all or part of their VET tuition fees. Currently it is available to students studying in the Advanced Diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine at SITCM. VET FEE-HELP loans are not subject to income/assets tests or age restrictions.
VET FEE-HELP provides you with the option of:
deferring all of your tuition fees; or
paying some of your tuition fees upfront and deferring the balance.
There is a loan fee of 20% for all VET FEE HELP loans.
* Please note that SITCM's approval to offer VET FEE-HELP is currently subject to a disallowance period of 15 sitting days (not calendar days) in both Houses of Parliament. Students can access VET FEE-HELP during this period. However, if SITCM's approval becomes disallowed, students will be unable to access VET FEE-HELP for the remainder of the course that they are enrolled in as they can only incur a VET FEE-HELP debt for units of study with census dates prior to any disallowance motions being passed.
What does VET FEE-HELP cover?
VET FEE-HELP can cover all or part of your tuition fees, i.e. you can choose to apply it to all or part of your VET unit of study debt. VET FEE-HELP provides a loan for tuition fees only, and does not cover additional text books, equipment, travel, tools, accommodation or general living expenses.
Other incidental charges apply to the following services provided by SITCM. These include:
Printed copies of record books, work books, handouts, module books or other printed matter issued as part of the Training Material that are available online, or are lost or misplaced - $0.20 is charged per single sided print (b&w)
Copies of Academic Transcript (Where first copy provided free of charge) $20.00
Copies of Formal Qualifications (Where first copy provided free of charge) $50.00
Student ID Card (Where first copy provided free of charge) $20.00
Late Enrolment Fee: If a student enrols in a Unit of Study on or after the Start Date and prior to the Census Date, a late enrolment fee of 3% of tuition fee applies to the Unit of Study. The late enrolment fee cannot be deferred to VET FEE-HELP.
How do I pay back the loan?
You start repaying your accumulated HELP debt through the Australian Taxation Office when your income is above the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment. For information about the minimum income threshold, please refer to the VET FEE-HELP Information Booklet .
When do I need to apply?
To apply, a Request for VET FEE-HELP Assistance form must be lodged before the Census Date. However if the form is lodged after the Start Date a Late Enrolment Fee of 3% of tuition fee will be charged per Unit of Study.
