End of an Era: Advanced Diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine

The Advanced Diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine was developed by SITCM as the one of the highest TCM qualification in Australia in 2004. It was successfully accredited by the NSW Vocational Education & Accreditation Board as a Nationally Recognised course and had been delivered by SITCM since then. The Advanced Diploma further cemented the status and reputation of SITCM as a diligent provider of quality TCM education, attracting many experienced and highly qualified TCM practitioners to join the teaching team, and producing graduates who are passionate to contribute to the betterment of community health and recognition of TCM in Australia and abroad.

The rise of popularity of TCM in Australia since the introduction of the Advanced Diploma course has seen the increasing need for higher qualified practitioners. This is evidenced by the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia, established by AHPRA in 2012, that mandated a Bachelor degree to be the minimum requirement for registration as a TCM practitioner.

The Advanced Diploma, which had been a success for the development of TCM education in Australia and reached far into the Chinese and Korean community, had its final intake in 2012 with a record-breaking 152 enrolments.

With the last group of Advanced Diploma students graduating or transitioning to the Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine for further study, SITCM would like to express its most sincere gratitude to the lecturers, supervisors and alumni for their hard work and support throughout the years.

As one chapter draws to a close, SITCM is hopes to continue its legacy on providing high level undergraduate and eventually, postgraduate education to advance the knowledge and clinical skills of TCM practitioners in Australia.
